Hello Everyone,
Exciting News!!!
The website and shop are all live and open!!!
You can now order a Chef's Box for delivery next week.
Bob and I hope you are all good. We are both very well and happy to be back harvesting, packing and delivering boxes to you our lovely customers. The website went live on Friday evening and within minutes we had our first order, and then another. This is why we are happy as re starting the box scheme we found quite daunting. We were delighted to see friends from the past reordering and new friends wanting to give our produce a try.
The Chef’s Box will be totally organic, using recyclable and reusable packaging, and all produce in the box has been grown on the farm.
Here on the farm and in the walled garden we grow our goodies using Organic Principles which our certification body, the Soil Association have set out. The work we do is physical and demanding but extremely satisfying, resulting in very tasty seasonal fruit, vegetables and herbs. If you receive one of our Chef’s Boxes you will notice that growing leaves may still be on the vegetables or that the earth coats a part of it or that the produce is actually huge! Our produce would not fit on a supermarket shelf or may not fit in a container. What I can guarantee is that the taste will be unbelievably lip smackingly good.
My suggestions for storing your delivered vegetables if they are toooo big for your fridge is to find a cool place, for instance your garage or the cupboard under the stairs, and store them in a veg box. If you receive a bunch of a crop (for instance kale and a herb bunch will be in the boxes this week) keep them in a jug of water till required. They will keep fresh and also look good on the kitchen unit.
All of our boxes will be a ‘surprise’…we will present a list on the website and I will do the social media bit for you to discover the contents. However, there maybe the odd substitution due to a change in the harvesting schedule. An example of this will be cauliflowers, romanesque and calabrese. Very often these vegetables can appear over night and when they become available, we will want to put them in the boxes. What we intend to provide is a variety of totally seasonal fruit and vegetables. We want to give to you the vegetable when it is at its optimum availability and quality of taste.
The contents of each box will be harvested on the day it will be delivered. The exception to this will be the crops which are harvested to cure, such as onions, garlic and shallots and the roots which are grown in the summer months and stored for use over the winter months such as beetroot, potatoes and carrots. Otherwise we harvest just hours before you receive your box providing that quality of taste.
There will be no harmful pesticides used in the growing of our produce.
Limited packaging with any packaging being reused or recycled.
No delivery fee with delivery in our all electric van.
Two recipe cards from Chef Alex to inspire your weekly menu plan.
A jar of deliciousness made by the Freyja Kitchen.
A grand selection of Fresh Local Organic Produce which will taste delicious.
Having vegetables brought into the kitchen from the garden does make for a more creative cook, so I am hoping our Chef’s Box brings more happiness to you our lovely customers.
Enjoy cooking,
Ann
